Always & Forever ~ Sizzling Summer Blog Hop

http://www.theromancetroupe.com/

Welcome to my contribution to the Sizzling Summer Blog Hop, organized by The Romance Troupe. So, for this hop, the participants are all picking their favorite sizzling scene from either their own books or a book they've read and loved.

I had a hard time deciding which sizzling scene to choose, but I finally decided to give you Zach and Lilly's first kiss from my first novel, Always & Forever.  Enjoy!

Excerpt from Always & Forever
Copyright Chantel Rhondeau 2012

He leaned into her, testing her limits. She didn’t back away. “I could go to the store. What do you need?”

She smiled at him—the first time since dinner. “All you need is an appetite. I’ll do the shopping. I’m not sure you’d know what to buy to make salad.”

“Hey.” He grasped her hand and put it over his heart. “Words hurt, you know?”

“I think you’re tough enough to handle it.” She leaned into him and placed a quick peck on his cheek. Her soft hair brushed across his face, swirling her scent around him.

That wouldn’t do it for him. He needed more. Zach leaned toward her.

She opened her door and slipped out of the car. “Goodnight, Zach. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He sat, stunned, watching as she closed the door and walked toward her house. This wasn’t the way it was supposed to happen. Not twice in a row.

Zach jumped out of the car and ran up the walk, intercepting her on the porch as she unlocked the front door. “Invite me in for a nightcap?” He grasped her hand, praying she wouldn’t disappear into the house again.

Several emotions flitted across the surface of her face before she shook her head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. I have work tomorrow.”

“Come on, pumpkin.” He grinned and pulled her gently toward him, inhaling her sweet fragrance when she moved. “It’s not that late.”

“Yes, cupcake, but you have a busy day of writing ahead of you.” She pulled her hand free from his.

“It is our second date. Haven’t you thought about this at all?” he tried again, stepping into her personal space. “I’ve been dreaming of it every night since I met you.”

He closed the remaining distance between them, placing his palm across her back and pulling her body into his. He loved the feel of her small breasts pressing snuggly against him, the fabric of her shirt moving in and out as her breath quickened.

Zach framed her face in his hands and tilted her head upward, loosing himself in the sparkling depths of her eyes. He ran his fingers through her soft, waterfall of hair, and stroked her gently arched back.

“Zach?” Her voice quavered and she touched his lips with the tip of her finger. “What are you doing?”

He closed his eyes, savoring the feel of her hesitant touch. “Isn’t it obvious?” he asked, when she moved her hand away.

He brushed his mouth against hers. As their lips touched, a delicious shudder went through Lilly’s body. He sensed her fragility, knew he had to move slowly. He didn’t want to scare her. A light, closed-mouthed kiss was all she could handle. Satisfied she did feel something for him, Zach pulled away.

Lilly’s arms snaked around him, pulling him back to her, and her lips pressed against his with more purpose. She opened her mouth, and her tongue flicked out to touch his lips. A groan ripped from him. He needed no further encouragement to deepen the kiss.

He ran his hand against her side and gently palmed her breast. Her nipple tightened under the light silk as his thumb grazed across it. Lilly made a soft noise of feminine desire that drove him wild.

The intoxicating smell of lavender filled his nostrils and blotted out any other scent. That flowery fragrance was all Lilly, and she smelled so sweet. He was unable to hide his arousal as her lithe body brushed against him.

Her hand strayed from his neck and came agonizingly close to his beltline before she ran it up his shirt.

He slid his mouth off hers to find the sweet, sensitive skin below her earlobe. She uttered a small, urgent moan as he kissed the area, sucking lightly, not quite hard enough to mark her.

Lilly’s hot kisses brushed across his neck, and her hands found their way under his shirt. She stroked his abs with a gentle touch, breaking down the control Zach tried to maintain.

“Let’s take this inside.” His voice sounded ragged in his own ears.

The movement of her hands stilled. As though his words broke the spell, she stepped away from him. “What am I thinking?” She shook her head frantically. “This can’t happen. Not now.”

Location, location, location ~ Girly Book Blog Hop

Click here to enter the grand prize
I had such a fun time participating in the last Girly Book Blog Hop that I jumped at a chance to play again. Thanks so much to Libby Mercer for organizing another great hop. Best part for all of you? At each stop on the hop (haha - I'm a poet) each participant is giving away some sort of prize (enter below for a chance to win a $5 Amazon Gift Card). In addition to that, there is one huge grand prize that will be the ultimate reader's dream. Many of us have contributed various items to the grand prize, so be sure to click over and enter that too!

So, our posts this time are supposed to center around location. What is it about books that can transport you to another time and place? I've been to so many locations, enjoyed many places not only from our world, but places available only in the imagination. Fantasy was my favorite genre to read growing up: from the dragon-filled skies of Anne McCaffrey's Pern to the world full of talking horses/spirit guides, griffons, and other magical beings, Valdemar, created by Mercedes Lackey. I've spent many hours in these other worlds, pretending I was the characters I read about. As I got older, my reading choices have changed somewhat, but I've spent a lot of hours in New York with Mary Higgins-Clark, solving mysteries, and I've spent a significant amount of time in Bon Temps, Louisiana, falling in love with a certain vampire viking from the imagination of Charlaine Harris.  Oh, and I absolutely love traveling back to the Victorian era to fall in love with numerous men while reading the fantastic imaginings of Amanda Quick.

While the locations in my book are certainly more mundane than places I've visited, I find that water plays a significant role in my location choices. Always & Forever takes place on the shore of a large lake in fictional Serenity, Oregon. My upcoming release, Crime & Passion, opens with a murder on the beach in a small town in Northern California. Even though I told myself I wasn't going to do another story next to the water, in the book I'm writing next at some point the characters will end up at a mansion next to a lake while hiding from the enemy. I can't seem to get away from it, and I love it! Water is the soothing balm that my soul cries for. The sound of waves crashing, a river rushing down a mountain side, the gentle patter of rain even. I love it all.

Chantel's Sensational Secondary Characters ~ The Girly Book Blog Hop

This blog hop organized by Libby Mercer (thanks, Libby) has prizes associated with each hop, so don't forget to check out my giveaway below and then hop to all the other blogs to read about their characters and enter their individual giveaways!

Ah, secondary characters. What can I say about them? They are fabulous. I have so many secondary characters that love to steal scenes and the hearts of my readers. I'm going to highlight the most popular ladies.

Zach and Lilly are the heroes of my recently released romantic suspense, Always & Forever, but I span generations with my scene-stealing secondary characters (now, say that sentence five times fast - LOL).

First, we'll start of with Margaret Woodbridge.  Margaret is Zach's grandmother. She is the matriarch of this wealthy family, but she and her husband didn't come from money; rather, they built their company from the ground up. Because of this, Margaret has a unique perspective on life different from the rest of her family. She doesn't tolerate nonsense, ignores gossip, and she's quite the matchmaker. I've had several people tell me she's their favorite character in the entire book. I must confess, I absolutely love her!

Next up, Sarah Smith, Zach's sister.  Sarah is tough and tell things like they are, but she also has a soft side and tries to be polite. She's always there for Zach when he needs some timely advice - or a kick in the rear end to get him moving the right direction.  I think she may be tied so far with votes for favorite secondary character from my readers who have expressed a preference.

Finally, I'd like to highlight little Savannah Smith, Zach's niece.  Savannah is six years old and very opinionated. She's not afraid to tell someone they are being rude, especially if they've hurt someone she cares about. Savannah stole every scene she appeared in, and a couple people asked if I couldn't just squeeze her into a few more!

The secondary woman I'm loving in my new work in progress, Crime & Passion, is a bit different in nature from my prior supporting ladies.

Suzie Stone thinks she is in love with my hero, Donovan. Unfortunately for Donovan, Suzie is more than a little unstable. So far, she is playing a much larger role than I expected her to when I first thought her up, but her brand of crazy has been all sorts of fun to write!

Who is your favorite secondary character? Who stayed with you long after you finished the book they appeared in?
