#BookReview ~ The Emotion Thesaurus

Title: The Emotion Thesaurus
Author: Angela Ackerman & Becca Publisi
Genre: Writer's reference
Rating: 5 stars!

One of the biggest problem areas for writers is conveying a character's emotions to the reader in a unique, compelling way. This book comes to the rescue by highlighting 75 emotions and listing the possible body language cues, thoughts, and visceral responses for each.

Using its easy-to-navigate list format, readers can draw inspiration from character cues that range in intensity to match any emotional moment. The Emotion Thesaurus also tackles common emotion-related writing problems and provides methods to overcome them.

This writing tool encourages writers to show, not tell emotion and is a creative brainstorming resource for any fiction project.

My Review
I've been writing for quite some time now with four books published and more on the way, but I find that at times I'm using the same phrases over and over again. Tired of straining my brain trying to come up with something different, I decided to give this book a try. It's great! Whenever I feel myself reaching for an emotion and using the same old, same old, I simply open this up and read the entire section on the emotion I'm working on. By the time I finish reading the section, I usually have some great ideas. Love it!

  2. Thank you for the wonderful review, Chantel! I used to think that having multiple books published meant that the authors must have mastered much of the writing craft. Of course, that was totally wrong ;). I'm glad The Emotion Thesaurus is helping you out with this trouble spot, as it continues to help me with mine.
