DAUGHTERS: THE GOOD AND THE BAD Blog Tour ~ Nonnie Jules

Today, I have Nonnie Jules here, author and blogger, to talk a little about her writing journey and her new release. So I'll turn the time over to her. Welcome, Nonnie!

Hi Chantel, and thanks so much for having me over today. If I may, I'd like to introduce myself to your guests. I'm NONNIE JULES, mother, wife, author, loyal friend and an on-the-move kinda girl!

I'm here today to tell you that you, too can be a multi-genre author. I penned my first book, a parenting guide called "THE GOOD MOMMIES' GUIDE TO RAISING (ALMOST) PERFECT DAUGHTERS", 100 Tips On Raising Daughters Everyone Can't Help But Love! in May of 2013. At the time, I had already begun working on my first novel as well as having a children's book sitting on the back burner.

When I first began on social media, I initially came across a bunch of naysayers who told me that it would be frowned upon if I decided to write from several different genres. If you've ever stopped by my blog WATCH NONNIE WRITE! then you've heard me speak about how I got rid of those zeros (naysayers) in my writing world and then was blessed enough to happen upon a bunch of heroes (positive, encouraging, supporters).

I didn't understand why it would be frowned upon that I wanted to become a multi-genre author. But, even the naysayers have explanations for everything. It was explained to me that if you write from a plethora of genres, then you will appear to be a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None." That may very well be true for some, but not all of us fall under that tiny umbrella.

I proudly proclaim that I am an expert in the parenting department of girls. Why? Because I've raised two very exceptional ones. Now, although I think some of the tips that are used in my parenting guide could be used for boys, since I'm not a mother to one, I wouldn't don the same title of "Expert" in regards to them.

I recently penned my first novel, "Daydream's Daughter, Nightmare's Friend." Yes, writing it was much different than writing a book of tips, but, if I can say so myself, I think I did a pretty good job of it. I also write poetry and since it is how my writing began, I know that I am very good in that area. Now we move over onto the topic of children's books. I've had one waiting in the wings for quite sometime now, and although it's been sitting idle, not because it was hard to pen, but because of illustrator issues, I think I will fair very well there, too.

Don't let anyone put you into a box. Yes, Suze Orman writes about financial matters and as far as I know, that's all she writes about and that's OK. She's found her niche and she sticks to it. J.K. Rowling had been successful writing the Harry Potter series but it was very sad to me that when she decided she wanted to try her hand in another arena/genre, she felt she had to do it under a pseudonym. I would bet my next hamburger that the reasons just mentioned above, are why she did. People wanted to keep her in that Harry Potter kind of box, but she wanted to be set free and spread her proverbial wings in other areas/genres. So, if you love many areas of writing, go on and try your hand in as many as you feel comfortable, and should you find one that you favor over all others, then let that be your 'calling'. But, on the flip side of that coin, should you feel comfortable and you are producing good work in many different genres, then run with that, too. If you're going to label me, I prefer "Mrs. of all Trades and Master of All,", (that is, the ones I know I'm good at). Does that sound better to you? It sure does to me!

I hope you all have enjoyed your time here today with me and I also hope that you will stop by the links below and check out my books as well as the trailers to both. If you're on social media, feel free to connect with me on Twitter @nonniejules and on Facebook via the same name.
